Dungeness - Andrew Carnegie Family Home

Home of the wealthy Carnegie family where their many children grew up and eventually built their own homes nearby with money given as wedding presents. Major employer on the island with the many servants and workers required to run the home and farm. They also had a huge icehouse to store blocks of ice brought down from the north in winter. The many valuable trees on the island were cut and sold for ship building back in the day.
