Normandy Hedgerows mistakes63 viewsOne thing not thought of beforehand, Normandy is dotted with farms that use hedgerows to protect their fields from the wind and divide them. The Germans used these to their advantage and mowed troops down with gunfire until the Allied forces caught on and also used them.

D-Day Invasion of Normandy66 viewsThis is a map showing all the points of invasion. Well thought out, many things went wrong as paratroopers were dropped in the wrong place and landing craft hit the beaches miles away. Still, many things went right including the most important missions to win the day. Gliders were also used.

Weapons of Sabotage67 viewsThese delayed explosive devices and other weapons in the museum such as the tiny one bullet gun, hidden knives, and silencers are the stock in trade of spies and saboteurs. There really are research and development departments who design this stuff for them just like Q in James Bond.

The explosive on the left was placed on rail lines. The one on the right could be used in gas tanks and cans. These allowed attackers to be far away when they were activated.

Escape and evasion - dog drags70 viewsThe OSS (forerunner to the CIA) and others used these drags to get dogs off their scent to evade capture. These kits saved many lives.

Panama Prison73 viewsAside from going after Noriega in Panama, Special Ops also busted out an American from prison who was caught there with a transmitter to denounce Noriega. The American was guarded closely with orders to shoot him if America tried anything to get him out. Our mission was successful however and he did make it home alive.

Food and radios62 viewsFood similar to MREs but made for local tastes and solar/windup radios were dropped to the people in Afghanistan to help. The radios allow them to hear news of what is happening in their country during the war.

Spider hides64 viewsSpecial forces create these to hide from local soldiers while gathering intel. 29 were created in Iraq before we went in and only 2 were discovered.
