Water cistern68 viewsBefore water was piped in by the Navy, the Keys depended on rain water saved in cisterns for their water needs. During the 1800s a great fire swept through the area. Residents watched from boats as fire hopped from roof to roof destroying their homes. Since then, only metal roofs, which had survived the fire, were allowed on homes. This also helped with gathering rain water in gutters into cisterns.Dec 26, 2008

Dining at McDonald's Key style69 viewsI spoke to the owner of this McDonald's in Marathon, FL in the Keys who said he actually decorated the restaurant for the locals, not the tourists, to give them an inviting, and may I say charming place to eat. Dec 26, 2008

Scooter and electric car rentals67 viewsTraffic is pretty tight in Key West and parking hard to find not to mention costly. Many tourists op to leave their car in one place and rent a scooter, small electric car, or bicycle instead.Dec 26, 2008
